The Final Count Down

The saddle bags are packed, the clothes are laid out, and the bike is ready. It's going to be three long days before I can hit the road. Six months ago I started planning this trip and it feels like the last weeek of school - I'm almost giddy. Almost. There have been a few hiccups here and there (like losing my winter gloves) but that's the sort of thing that always happens. No big deal.

I have a few work items to take care of before I go but everything is taken care of. I hope. I made a bet last night that I won't check my work email/voicemail on this trip. It'll be hard but I sure could use the $5. I need to disconnect from work for a bit and I think this trip will allow me to finally take a break and get my head on straight. It's about time too - my last vacation was 8 years ago.

Speaking of work, I walked in this morning to find a small item on my desk with s sticky note on it. The note said, "A little going away present". I'm flattered that someone thought of me before I go but then I open the bag and find a nice tube of Preparation H. At least they bought the Preparation H *with Aloe*. How thoughtful.

Tim and I are planning on hitting the road at 7am on Sat morning. Looks like only day 1 will be hot down to Las Vegas (highs in the upper-90's). Otherwise, the weather looks great - highs in the mid-70's and lows in the mid-40's and -50's. Looks like we might get lucky....

And by "get lucky" you mean we'll hit nothing but pleasant weather. Right?!

Have a safe trip and come back with lots of stories to share.

I love you very much and hope this is a "trip of a lifetime" for you.

I'll try not to worry too much. Reading your blog will let me know you're okay.

Vroom. Vroom.
